Daily Prompt: Personal Space

To what extent is your blog a place for your own self-expression and creativity vs. a site designed to attract readers? How do you balance that? If sticking to certain topics and types of posts meant your readership would triple, would you do it?

I set up this blog for my writing, and sometimes my lack thereof. Sometimes I digress and fangirl though most times I push myself to do the Daily Prompts to get myself writing again. Sometimes I write about something that bothers me although most of the time, I keep most of my thoughts to myself, and off the blog.

Because if I were to really blog – and I mean, really blog about what really occupies my mind – it will be about autism, sensory processing disorders, and my sad attempts at being a good mother. It will probably also delve into why I may not really be that happy about where my life is heading, and the choices that I’ve made in the past that have gotten me here.

It’s not a pretty sight and one that I don’t want to have left behind should I one day just keel over and bite the dust.

Maybe one day I will, but for now, I refrain from doing it just to keep my own sanity in check. Plus, I’ll never forget the time someone said to be, “pearls before swine” and it took me quite a while to really understand what she meant, and the context in which it was said.

So, do I do this to attract readers?

No, I have better use of my time than try to conform to what I believe will attract readers to this blog. It’s difficult enough to really be truthful and write what I really feel so why waste whatever motivation I have left in penning my thoughts onto this blog just to increase readership?

You either like what you read here, or you don’t – and move on to some blog that does.

In the meantime, here’s a photo of some roses I snapped at the store today in the midst of grocery shopping, which also brought a smile to my face.
