Thief (A Nonet)

Falling in shadow, the moon’s aglow,
awash in red, and then it bled
long streaks of silver, having
pilfered its ghostly sheen,
reflecting its gleam
till the dark claimed
its light, thief
in the
night.

A nonet is a nine line poem. The first line containing nine syllables, the next line has eight syllables, the next line has seven syllables. That continues until the last line (the ninth line) which has one syllable. Nonets can be written about any subject. Rhyming is optional.

Savored

It’s been a hard day, I need a break
Pour myself a glass, take a sip
savor each note.  It’s pure bliss.
Hear the songs, close my eyes…
But word to the wise –
this was before
baby came
to our
lives.

Nonet: A nonet is a type of poem which has nine lines, with the first line having 9 syllables, the second 8 syllables, the third 7 until the ninth line has only one. Some nonnets may also have an iambic meter (stress on every other syllable).

Inspiration does not come to me
till that final minute before
everything goes to hell and
panic sets in, digs in,
blooms where there was once
nothing but din,
till the light
settles
in.

Daily Prompt: Be Happy

We all know how to do something well — write a post that teaches readers how to do something you know and/or love to do.

Photographers, artists, poets: show us TEACHING.

It starts with the simplest intention
like wishing sunshine on bleak days
when a smile is all you need
to brighten a sad face
So gather the rays
where you find them
no matter
where you’ve
been.

Daily Prompt: Stay A While

Tell us about the nicest thing you’ve ever done.

Photographers, artists, poets: show us KINDNESS.

It never hurts to practice kindness
even during the worst of days
when all we want to do is
hide in our private place
when someone out there
just needs a smile
a kind word.
Stay, a
while.

Daily Prompt

Nonet 1/365

Maleficent was just a woman
pissed off as any broad could be,
scorned, uninvited, forgone.
All were there except she.
Can you blame her then?
Can’t we pretend?
Here she comes…!
Dear old
friend

Daily Prompt: Brand New Me

Tomorrow is the first day of a brand new year. Tomorrow you get to become anyone in the world that you wish. Who are you? You can choose to by anyone, alive today or someone gone long ago. If you decide to stay “you” share your rationale.

Photographers, artists, poets: show us METAMORPHOSIS

To wake and be someone else but me
I wonder who I’d want to be.
Would I do it?  Would I balk?
Or am I just all talk?
Stay this way, and be
the soul I was
meant to be –
still just
me.

Daily Prompt: Cacophony

Write about a noise — or even a silence — that won’t go away. (We’ll let you interpret this in different ways…)

Photographers, artists, poets: show us ANXIETY.

How I envy the confident ones
Who silence voices of the past
Who forbid self-doubt to seep
To burrow in too deep
Never allowing
the pain to last
Knowing well
there lies
hell

Daily Prompt: Love Never Lasting

Do you have a tattoo? If so, what’s the story behind your ink? If you don’t have a tattoo, what might you consider getting emblazoned on you skin?

Photographers, artists, poets: show us PERMANENT.

I have a tattoo between my breasts
Inked there for a boy I once loved
Long gone now though ink remains
Forever there it taints
Each day reminding
Innocence fades
It taunts me
Stills me
Caged

Stop shouting – I hear the words you speak,
understand how you feel, unheard –
for although they may listen
their hearts can’t envision
what you really want
to say, or mean
forgetting
we all
bleed.
