…to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” – A.A. Milne, Winnie the Pooh
I wrote a poem but I had to delete it and will post a picture or two instead as a reminder that not everything, especially loss, needs a poem to commemorate the moment.
But this is a little reminder that for the last 17 years, this adorable nugget sat next to my writing desk through every story and poem, and gave me nothing but joy and unconditional love…
if you could choose moments to take with you wherever you go,
which ones would you pick?
would you choose that first time he spoke your name
or would you rather go for that first kiss?
would you discard the moments when he broke your heart
keeping the ones where he chased away the pain with a heartfelt word,
those times when you thought you couldn’t go on
until he held you in his arms and for the first time in a long time, you felt heard?
would you find it hard to pick and choose
which moments to keep and which ones to toss away
or would you rather take all the moments just as they are
no matter how many times you both have gone astray?
What are the three most memorable moments — good or bad, happy or sad — in your life? Go!
Three memories may seem like a trifle
but I can’t seem to come up with even one,
though now that I have to think quite hard about it –
it was the day Darkness obliterated my sun
He has autism, they said – he’s on the spectrum
Tell me now – do you know what it is?
But I barely heard the words she said to me then –
the day my gods took away my bliss.
