muse

you are my muse
and that is the truth, at least for now,
pulling me from the depths of despair
i find myself in somehow
preferring the comfort of the darkness
when there is so much light out there
until your smile, your eyes, your voice
prove the perfect snare

so keep me under your spell
for as long as you truly can
dance with me to the tune of my wildness.
be my hero, be my man
and i’ll write you until my tears run out
and i’ll need to cut open a vein
and let my fears and dreams and love spill out,
and all that my heart cannot contain.

NaPoWriMo Day 2: Stray

Bathed in the remains of the day
she lays quietly, undisturbed
ruminating on the life we’ve lived so far
wondering what awaits us in this world

so many questions,
so many lies
as she seeks for answers
from behind my eyes

so she lays quietly like she always does
capturing the last of the sun’s rays,
pondering the future that lies ahead of us
till she closes her eyes, and lets her dreams stray

NaPoWriMo Day 1: Lune

No April Fools’ here!  Why? Because it’s National Poetry Writing Month and the first prompt is to write a lune.  Similar to a haiku which is a 3-line poem with a 5-7-5 syllable count, a lune is a 3-line poem with a 5-3-5 syllable pattern.  So, here goes!

Outside my window,
a rose blooms
in the morning sun

so sweet and precious,
it’s beauty
a rival to none

till the days go by,
pink petals
falling, then it’s gone.

Mine – 30

he watches her when she’s not looking
thinking him asleep in their bed
nestled beneath the covers
he wonders
of the fears that live
inside her head
that she’s not beautiful enough
or smart enough
for him to love her forever
nor thin enough like the others
who came before
does she know, he wonders,
as he reaches for her
that she is his harbor,
his anchor,
his shore.

Mine – 29

should we meet? she asks him
do we dare?
will you be kind the first time?
will you be gentle?
for i’m not perfect
and it’s been awhile
since someone said i was beautiful
it’s been a damn long time
till a soul starts to wither
till it strays in search
of a touch that seeps deep within
for another soul to merge
so should we go ahead with it?
should we dare
throw everything to the wind?
will you be there?

Mine – 27

she can’t remember the last time
she felt beautiful
when he last touched her
in her secret place
when he appeased every fear
and nightmare
when she felt safest
in his embrace

she can only feel
the distance between them
as she counts the days
before his return
for in his arms
is where she belongs
even if they both
will have to burn

Night

when night falls
he comes to her
knowing she’ll be there
waiting for him
like she always does
starlight in her hair
she knows he loves her
like no other
there’s only her for him
for she holds his heart
safe in her hands
long after the lights
grow dim.

Stumbling Towards Madness

Stumbling towards madness
that’s what we do
when we find ourselves hurtling
to the past that we once knew
where everything hurt
and life was just a game
so we lose ourselves in lies
feeling nothing but shame

so we stumble along
hoping for the best
there’s a finish line somewhere
if we simply follow the rest
there’s no need to worry
there’s no need to try
so we stumble towards this madness
and believe lie after lie

till the day we wake up
to find no one there
just a barren wasteland
what an endless nightmare
where everyone follows blindly
till the end of the unseen line
nothing but broken dreams
and we’ve run out of time
