His Eyes, They Tell Lies

His eyes, they tell lies
of a love he never told you
but this I know, for every word is true –
that he promised her the stars, and then he let go
watching her fall into the abyss below
seeing her flounder, still entwined in his tales
bound in her scars and marked by the nails
that he pounded upon the box that sealed her past
tossed into darkness, so beautiful, so vast
dignity granted through her pain and her fury
this love he gave her was no judge nor jury
to condemn her to a past that was no longer alive
no longer there to torment her if only she’d abide
to live in the light again, despite her scars
his eyes, they tell lies,
but he gave her the stars.

  1. Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size
But when I start to tell them,
    They think I’m telling lies.
    I say,
It’s in the reach of my arms
    The span of my hips,
    The stride of my step,
    The curl of my lips.
    I’m a woman
    Phenomenally.
    Phenomenal woman,
    That’s me.
