13poster_highresVeterans Day is an official American holiday which honors people who have served in armed service.It is observed on November 11. It coincides with other holidays such as Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, both celebrated in other parts of the world marking the end of World War I. (The war officially ended at  11:00am on November 11, 1918 when Germany surrendered.)

Veterans Day and Memorial Day are not the same thing.    Memorial Day which is celebrated on the last Monday in May and unofficially begins the start of summer,  is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the military.  Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans.
