Three in the morning and he can’t sleep
The nightmares keeping him awake
White tiled walls and cold vinyl floors
Visions he can’t yet shake
Though now he’s back home
He’s still alone
Wondering
Dreaming
Home
*A Nonnet is a type of poem which has nine lines. The first line has 9 syllables, the second 8 syllables, the third 7 syllables until the ninth will have only one syllable. It’s supposed to have an iambic meter, where every other syllable is stressed (my first nonet so I have no clue if I’ve followed the iambic meter rule…)
I am a sucker for poetry and I love this. It reads so beautifully. I have no idea about meters and stuff, I just know what I like and what I like usually rhymes, has a comfortable natural rhythm and speaks to me. All boxes ticked! 🙂
Thank you so much, Kathy! I started my writing life as a poet and my family has been waiting for that volume of poetry for years. One day, about 14 years ago, someone asked me if I was a writer, and when I Replied that I was a poet, he asked me if there was a difference between a writer and a poet, or did I just box myself into a label and establish walls around what I was able to do, as in not just write poetry.
I haven’t written poetry in awhile but it’s nice to get back to it and find my rhythm again 🙂
