Have you ever had a mentor? What was the greatest lesson you learned from him or her?
I have had many mentors and never just one. Sometimes they come all at the same time, though mostly they come one at a time, and with each one’s coming or going, I learn something new about myself and the world we live in.
Sometimes they come just when I’m needing guidance, or when I’m needing a stern hand to guide me where I need to go in this life, for I can be quite stubborn and go my own way, even when the path is not good for me.
Some mentors aren’t of my own choosing. They simply appear and it’s up to me to sink or swim around them. I don’t think mentors are supposed to be only the ‘good’ kind, but they can be the ‘bad’ ones, too.
And though I may wish nothing more than pox and the worse possible death to those who mentored me in darkness, I emerged from those experiences tougher and better than when I came in. And for that, even to those who wished me ill, I thank them as well.
For in darkness, you learn your lessons just as well as in the light.
