If you could choose to be a master (or mistress) of any skill in the world, which skill would you pick?
Well, just before the clock strikes midnight, I need to get the Daily Prompt out of the way. And this one, I like, although as I write this, the first thing that popped to my mind upon reading the prompt was: swordfighting.
Yes, you and I heard it right – swordfighting.
I could have at least thought about some useful skill in today’s world, right? But no, I had to come up with swordfighting. So, now I have to ask myself why the hell did swordfighting, of all things, come to mind? I’m sure there are other things I should really be wishing to be a master/mistress at.
There’s always cooking (I could always use some help in that department), organizational skills (I definitely need major help in that department – which should go hand in hand with cleaning), or even the barest skill of holding down a 9 to 5 job* (On second thought – naah).
After a full two minutes of writing that last paragraph – or sentence – I still can only come up with “swordfighting”. I don’t know what came over me to think that, and still think that – as nothing else really comes to mind and being stubborn, my subconscious mind is sticking to it, no matter what – but I guess that’s the whole point of the Daily Prompt. At least for me.
Now I just wish I could come up with a serious skill that would also make me more productive really.
But the answer is still the same: swordfighting.
Oh, and just when you are probably thinking it’s just something I pulled out of my behind just to write something on paper, it just occurred to me that for the last few days, I have found myself missing my Renaissance Faire days where I was taught how to fight using the shinai, a weapon used for practice and competition in kendo representing a Japanese sword, although it can be used to represent a sword from any culture.
I’d like to believe that I was actually cracking good at it, too.
Yup, those were the days…
*Just when you think that I have NO job whatsoever, I actually do. I just have my own practice and name my own hours. And they’re not exactly 9 to 5.
And as we’re on the topic of sword fighting, here are a few reminders as to why it’s pretty awesome:
